World Tai Chi Day Open Event
2-3pm, Saturday, 25th April, 2026
Abbey Park, Pershore WR10 1JE

At LCTKD, we have been celebrating World Tai Chi Day with free events open to the public every year since 2013 - even on line during the lockdown. Our annual event open to everyone takes place once again in 2026, and for LCTKD students this year there is also a free workshop available after time for a coffee at Number 8.

World Tai Chi Day is a global event held on the last Saturday in April each year, with the aim of having Tai Chi taking place continually around the world through the day. Each year in the UK, the biggest Tai Chi schools offer public events to allow everyone to come along and celebrate the joy of Tai Chi together with others.

One of the UK's biggest Tai Chi schools, LCTKD's event is always popular, and held in beautiful settings like Batsford Arboretum in the Cotswolds, and the National Trust's Coughton Court, and Pershore's Abbey Park, underneath the wonderful Pershore Abbey.

Our 2026 public event will be once again in Abbey Park, and this year with a team led by Sheriden Rollo. This lovely park allows us a bigger, flatter, and easily accessible space, with nearby parking and toilets and completely unhindered access for the public, to make sure it is truly open to the most people possible. And it is, of course, entirely FREE.

How Does It Work?

Just come along and join in. We have had babies coming, people in their 90s (or maybe over 100 but not telling us!), people who have never done Tai Chi before, people who have mobility difficulties, people who don't claim to be fit, and people who are, well, experts. Everyone is welcome, and there's nothing to pay and no need to book. Just come along.

Our Instructors work with smaller groups, so it's easier to hear, and each group has some experienced people so that there's someone to follow. You learn to follow along with a few moves, just to understand and enjoy the Tai Chi. Then, everyone comes together in a wonderful ensemble, all doing Tai Chi as one.

It lasts about an hour, you don't have to have any experience at all to join in, you can drop in or leave early if that's better for you than doing the full hour, or you can come and watch. Nobody minds how good you are. In fact, not being good is part of the fun, and there's always someone nearby to help.

See you there! (It's outside, so remember it's Britain and bring the right clothing.)

Any questions? Just contact us and we'll be happy to help.

And Then.....

4-6pm, Saturday, 25th April, 2026
The Courtyard Room at Number 8, High Street, Pershore WR10 1BG

Free, and Open to all LCTKD students.

Neil R. Hall returns from a sabbatical to offer a free workshop for LCTKD's Tai Chi students on the 4 primary and 4 secondary Jin. Number 8 is a community theatre space on the High Street (yes, at number 8!), just around from the Abbey. There's a nice cafe offering you just the right spot for a coffee after the event in the park, and the workshop runs from 4-6 p.m.

In this relaxed session for Tai Chi students of all levels from beginner to Senior Instructor, Neil explains what is meant by "Jin," and how you can understand it and apply that understanding to vastly improve your Tai Chi.

Not heard of it? Jin is sometimes translated as posture, sometimes technique, and sometimes energy. In simple terms, it's a way of understanding that Tai Chi movements are much more than "put your feet here, put your hands here." It is a way of exploring what should be happening to your body as a whole as you make each movement, and how that feels, using imagery like "floating a boat" or "tearing a piece of cloth." It's a session that will change your appreciation of your Tai Chi forever.
